Koepka Says Reed Apologized Following The Ryder Cup

Brooks Koepka was making the media rounds on Tuesday as part of his duties as the reigning PGA Championship winner, and in the process made a few headlines as well.

As one of the key players on the course and in the aftermath of the United States’ Ryder Cup loss to Europe last year, Koepka fielded questions from all comers as he made his way around New York City where a short drive away the 2019 PGA will be contested at Bethpage State Park’s Black Course.

Joining WFAN’s Boomer and Gio, Koepka was asked about the drama that came out of the United States team room, and Patrick Reed in particular. Koepka pulled back the curtain explaining that Reed preemptively reached out to his teammates via group text and apologized for some of the firestorm that he produced.

“I was in Scotland playing and I got a text from him, a group chat, and like he said, ‘Don’t believe everything you read,’” Koepka said. “Obviously the things with Patrick, it just kinda took on a life of its own. We’ve got a group text, and there were some texts that were sent, and he kind of apologized for some things.”

Koepka went on to call Reed “a good dude” who mostly keeps to himself and keeps his circle tight.

“(Patrick) just beats to his own drum,” Koepka said. “He’s very family-oriented, kinda sticks to himself. He’s not out playing practice rounds with a lot of guys. He’s got his wife, his caddie, his team which is kind of around him. And he’s a successful player; he’s good at what he does.

You can listen to Koepka’s entire interview with Boomer and Gio below, where he also talks about his “boring” reputation, his frustrations with slow play, his thoughts on Tiger Woods as well as the reasons behind his now-infamous Instagram picture with his girlfriend
