Dustin Johnson had a lackluster — by his standards — first leg of the FedEx Cup Playoffs this past week at The Northern Trust, but an interview he gave to CBS’ Amanda Balionis following his 1-over par third round made the rounds on social media for an interesting reason.
It wasn’t anything DJ said that caught the attention of the internet mob, but instead a certain someone who appeared to be looking on from a distance as DJ spoke to Balionis.
Instagram account @PGAMemes, they of Lee Westwood fame, cropped the picture of Johnson, Balionis and DJ’s fiancée Paulina Gretzky into a three-piece photo that various other accounts added their own witty captions to.
Obviously aware of the picture and meme going viral, Balionis and Gretzky fired back the best way they know how: embracing the heat.
Balionis posted on Monday morning a simple response to all those making jokes at her and Paulina’s expense.
“Our joint statement on a recent meme: Hi Haters ?”
As for DJ, he finished TNT with a 3-under par 68 to finish in a tie for 11th. He enters the Dell Technologies Open in second place in the FedEx Cup standings.
