Perinilla Lindberg Extends Lead At ANA Inspiration

Pernilla Lindberg fired a 2-under par 70 on Saturday and will take a three-shot lead into the final round of the ANA Inspiration.

The 31-year old Swede finished her third day in Rancho Mirage, California with two bogeys offset by four birdies to post a 54-hole tournament record 14-under par 202.

“Walking off the first day, being in the lead, I followed that up with another low round. That’s not easy to do, and I did that, going out in the lead now and holding on to my lead, actually extending my lead, they’re all great achievements,” said Lindberg, who is looking to join Helen Alfredsson (1993) and Annika Sorenstam (2001-2, 2005) as Swedes to win the ANA Inspiration.

“So obviously everything gives me a boost. But I’m going to keep doing what I’ve been doing for three days when I go out there tomorrow. Obviously it’s going to be different.”

After a second-consecutive 4-under par 68, Amy Olson is alone in second-place at 11-under par.

“I’m sure I will, absolutely,” said Olson, when asked if she’ll be nervous playing in Sunday’s final pairing.

“I’ve never been in this position before, but I’m excited about it. I definitely look at it as an awesome learning experience. You can’t really learn until you’ve been there.

“So I’m really excited about that. Yeah, I’m just looking forward to it.”

One further back is a group of five players at 10-under par, including Koreans Sung Hyun Park (74) and Inbee Park (67), Thai Moriya Jutanugarn (66), American Jennifer Song (68), and the English duo of Charley Hull (69) and Jodi Ewart Shadoff (69).

Japan’s Ayako Uehara (70) is at 9-under 207 with Rolex No. 1 Shanshan Feng (67) and Jessica Korda (73) at 208.
