Phil Gives Fan Gambling Advice

It’s no secret that Phil Mickelson likes a little side action. Some of the Hall of Famer’s best stories include a bet or wager, so it shouldn’t come as a surprise that Phil was looking out for a fan’s wallet at this week’s Safeway Open in Napa, California.

Fresh off a poor showing at the Ryder Cup in which Mickelson went 0-2, a fan spotted the affable lefty walking towards a tee during the Wednesday pro-am and asked him a simple question, “Thatta boy, Phil,” he said. “Should I have you in my DraftKings this week?”

“Probably not,” Mickelson said.

As it turns out, however, Phil wouldn’t have been a bad bet after he shot a bogey-free 7-under par 65 on day one. He is two shots back of first-round leader Sepp Straka.
