Sergio Garcia Hurts Shoulder Slamming Club

Here’s a free lesson: don’t try to take your frustration out on a gorse bush. Sergio Garcia saw his Open Championship flash before his eyes on Friday at Royal Birkdale after taking a mighty lash at the bush behind him. It appeared the reigning Masters champion injured his shoulder in anger after a poor tee shot on the par-3 fourth hole.

“It wasn’t very smart. To be honest I thought I was done,” Garcia said after posting a second round 1-under 69, on a day where only eight players were able to break par.

“It was little sore on the next tee. Took some ibuprofen and some Advil, got a little bit of work done … fortunately started loosening up as the round wore on.”

Garcia is 2-over after 36 holes, just eight shots back of leader Jordan Spieth.

Somebody else who was frustrated with the rain and the wind on Friday was Justin Thomas. Coming off a stellar round one performance where he shot a buttoned up 3-under 67 in a tie and cardigan, the 24-year-old gave it all back on the sixth hole where he took a quintuple bogey nine.

Here’s the play-by-play:

Thomas ended up shooting a 10-over 80, and missed the cut by two shots. Golf happens!
