Spieth’s Tip On Alcohol During Hot Weather: Lay Off The Sauce

Spieth’s Tip On Alcohol During Hot Weather: Lay Off The Sauce John David Mercer-USA TODAY Sports

Jordan Spieth may be only 24 years old, but he’s proven on multiple occasions throughout his very public life in his early twenties that he is mature beyond his years. Prior to teeing it up this week at this hometown event, the AT&T Byron Nelson, Spieth met with the assembled media where he gave his impressions of the new host course Trinity Forest and what obstacles it presents.

The Bill Coore-Ben Crenshaw-designed links-style course is situated on an old landfill that offers few opportunities for shade, which means temperatures could reach upwards of 100° with little or no respite for the players.

What does that mean for Spieth and the rest of the field? No booze and no big steak dinners.

How Does Drinking Affect Your Golf Game?

“Just a lot of hydration. Lay off the sauce every night, no alcohol,” Spieth said. “It makes a difference if you have two beers on a Tuesday, it really does.

“Stay away from big steaks. These are the kind of stuff you start to learn once you kind of feel sluggish. I’m 24 and I still kind of feel a difference here and there.”

Words of wisdom from the whiz kid.

Whether or not our SxS readers will take that advice to heart is a personal decision, but if we’re supposed to take our cues from the pros, this may be one worth looking into. After all, we already know what alcohol can do to your golf game on a typical day.
