The PGA Tour Just Got Some More Beef

Andrew “Beef” Johnston has taken the United States by storm. The 27-year-old Englishman has become a cult hero on in the States following some big finishes in big tournaments this year.

Playing mostly on the European Tour, Beef first made headway with U.S. fans following his win at the Spanish Open, declaring he couldn’t wait to celebrate with his friends back home.

Then, Beef followed up his win with a few top-10s, which included a solo eighth place finish at the Open Championship. He only played three times in the States this year — the U.S. Open, WGC-Bridgestone Invitational and the PGA Championship — but we’re going to see a lot more of him next year.

Al Tays of GolfChannel.com has more.

Andrew Johnston, the 27-year-old jovial Englishman with the unplayable-lie beard, the unflappable demeanor and – oh, yes, a pretty decent game – will have a PGA Tour card for next season.

Johnston closed with a 68 on Sunday – appropriately, National Cheeseburger Day – in the Albertsons Boise Open, good for a fourth-place finish and sufficient earnings in the Web.com Tour Finals to secure his card. He made $48,000 for his Boise finish, and earned $6,910 in the first Finals event for a total of $54,910. The top 25 money-earners in the Finals get PGA Tour cards; in the last three years, No. 25 has earned between $32,000 and $37,000.

More Beef is always a good thing.
