Thomas Won $1,000 Off Koepka With Eagle Hole Out

Justin Thomas was unconscious over the golf ball on Saturday at the BMW Championship, but he was very present after the ball left his club as evidenced by the highlight of his round: a 180-yard hole-out eagle on the 16th hole.

Already having notched seven birdies and an eagle to go along with one bogey through 15 holes, Thomas hit his drive 291 yards to the middle of the fairway on the 476-yard par-4.

Below the level of the green, Thomas hit an 8-iron that never left the flagstick. The shot dropped for his second eagle of the day and as you can see in the video, Thomas’ celebration included an allusion to world no. 1 Brooks Koepka.

“Get me some of that Brooks Koepka money,” you can see Thomas say to caddie Jimmy Johnson as they connected on a low five.

Koepka explained on the Golf Digest Podcast earlier this year that he and Thomas have a season-long bet that pertains to hole outs.

“We’ve got a little bit of a wager going on where anytime you hole out,” Koepka explained. “It has to be over a certain distance and (the longer it is, the payout) increases.”

Thomas made an ace in the Masters and another hole-out eagle at the Honda Classic, meaning some of that money Koepka has won this year is going directly into Thomas’ pocket

“The first thing I said to Jimmy, ‘I got some of that Brooks Koepka money,'” Thomas said after his round on Saturday. “That’s the first thing I said to him. Because that’s another hole-out. Thank you, Brooks.

“It was a good number. I just had pretty much a stock, smooth 8-iron and hitting it as well as I was with the wind off the left, I could let it work just right of it or at it and I mean it looked perfect line-wise the entire way.”

Thomas backed up the eagle with another birdie on the par-3 17th hole to reach 11-under par and set the course record for the second time this week. He heads into Sunday’s final round with a six-shot lead over Tony Finau.
