Tiger Returns To Top-5 In World Rankings

Tiger Woods will return to Muirfield Village this week, a place he has won five times, with his highest world-ranking in five years.

Despite not playing since a missed cut at the PGA Championship two weeks ago, Woods moved from No. 6 to No. 5 in the Official World Golf Rankings, switching spots with Justin Thomas.

Woods was last ranked inside the top-5 in the world during the first week of July 2014. Since then, he had a precipitous fall in the rankings that moved him as low as No. 1,199 on Nov. 25, 2017.

He began his ascent the following week at his Hero World Challenge, cracking the top-100 on April 7, 2018.

Aside from Woods’ climb back into the top-5 by flip-flopping with Justin Thomas, the rest of the top-10 remained the same heading to Jack’s place. Brooks Koepka remains world No. 1, followed by Dustin Johnson, Justin Rose, Rory McIlroy, Woods and Thomas. Rounding out the top 10 are Francesco Molinari, Bryson DeChambeau, Xander Schauffele and Rickie Fowler.

Following his missed cut at the PGA Championship, Woods already moved his focus to next month’s U.S. Open.

“There’s no reason why I can’t get up to speed again and crank it back up,” Woods said.

He made the decision to play at this week’s Memorial Tournament last week when he tweeted out that he would be in Ohio this week and California in two weeks for the third major championship of the season.

Woods will play the first two rounds of the Memorial Tournament alongside Justin Rose and Bryson DeChambeau.
