Tiger Takes A Jab At The USGA

Tiger Woods was in a good mood following his third top-5 finish of the 2018 PGA Tour season on Sunday at the Quicken Loans National. Although he didn’t stand much of a chance of catching the buzzsaw that was Francesco Molinari on Sunday at TPC Potomac at Avenel Farm, Woods saw progress in his putting, which allowed him to notch a fourth-place finish.

During his typical media availability following the round, Woods touched on a myriad of topics finishing up by lauding the R&A for their handling of the upcoming Open Championship — Woods’ next start — and seemingly taking a swipe at the USGA when he said that the R&A doesn’t feel the need to “manufacture” an Open.

“One of the neat things about playing about the Open Championship, they don’t care what par is,” Woods said. “They let whatever Mother Nature has…if it’s in store for a wet Open, it is, if it is dry, it’s dry. They don’t try to manufacture an Open.”

Reading between the lines of Woods remark, Associated Press reporter Doug Ferguson asked, “Are you suggesting the USGA cares what par is?”

“Say it again?” Tiger chided before revealing a smile and saying, “I heard ya.”
