Tiger Makes Incredible Save, Nearly Aces Next Hole

Now 11 rounds into his comeback, Tiger Woods has shown more than flashes of being able to contend on the new-age PGA Tour.

Fused back and all, Woods has shown instances of brilliance that golf fans came to know, and even expect, during his heydey in the early aughts. On Thursday at the Valspar Championship, Woods once again showed why he remains the biggest draw in the sport.

Bringing a solid round of even par into the final three holes at Innisbrook, which are dubbed “The Snake Pit,”  Woods hit a wild iron off of the tee on the par-4 16th hole that came to rest near the base of a tree. 99 out of 100 Tour pros would chip out, take their medicine and try to save par from some 80 or 90 yards.

Tiger was that one out of 100 who would go for it.

Facing a 197-yard shot, Woods cozied up to the tree, cleared out the fans and took a mighty swipe that sent his ball screaming towards the putting surface. Coming up just short of the green, Tiger put his excellent short game on display to get up and down for one of the best pars made this year on Tour.

In typical Tiger fashion, he carried over the momentum gained on the par-4 16th to the par-3 17th where he did this…

Woods finished the day at 1-under par and in a tie for eighth place, three strokes behind first-round leader Corey Conners.
