Tiger Brutally Pranked Finau During Captain’s Pick Call

Tiger Woods is known in Tour circles to have one of the best senses of humor on the circuit. Whether that’s because he’s one of the best players of all-time and people feel obligated to laugh at his jokes, or it’s genuinely true, is up for debate.

However, Woods revealed one of his latest pranks in his most recent Captain’s Blog for the Presidents Cup website in which he discussed his four captain’s picks as well as the injury replacement pick of Rickie Fowler for the sidelined Brooks Koepka.

Naturally singing the praises of each of the players he picked, Woods let the readers in on a prank he pulled on Tony Finau during his call to let the 30-year-old Utah native he made the team.

“Tony Finau is as genuine as they come and is going to be another key piece of the squad,” Woods wrote. “He is one of those guys who is going to light up the team room but will back it up on the course with consistent play. This is a guy who has qualified for the Tour Championship the last three years without a win, which is tough enough to accomplish once. It goes to show how reliable his game has been week in and week out, and that is exactly what this team needs. Everyone wants to play with Tony, so we are looking forward to having him.

“I actually pranked Tony a little when I called to tell him he was on the team. I could feel his heart sink when I said I had some tough news. So, I let him sweat it out for a few seconds before welcoming him to the Presidents Cup.”

Tiger “could feel (Finau’s) heart sink,” and then he let him sweat it out for a few seconds?! Absolutely brutal.

Finau will be joined U.S. Open champion Gary Woodland, Patrick Reed and Woods himself as captain’s picks.

“It’s hard to believe we are so close to going down to Melbourne,” Woods concluded his post. “I want to congratulate Ernie on rounding out his team with Jason, Sungjae, Adam and Joaquin. Going against Ernie and his team will be not be easy, especially with the outstanding Aussie fans supporting the International squad, but we’ll be ready.”

And for the first official time, Woods signed off as “Tiger Woods, U.S. Team Playing Captain.”

The matches are set to take place at Royal Melbourne Golf Club from Dec. 12-15.
