Wilson DQs Self For Non-Conforming Equipment

Mark Wilson has had some lean years on the PGA Tour of late.

The 5-time PGA Tour winner has been splitting his time between the big Tour and the Korn Ferry Tour for the last three years with only sporadic starts and even fewer made cuts, so what he did this past weekend at the Barracuda Championship is even more commendable.

Before teeing off in the fourth round of the opposite field event, Wilson took to Twitter to announce that he had disqualified himself from the tournament due to his using of a non-conforming greens-reading book, a violation of Rule 4.3.

“Sad to report but had to disqualify myself this morning for using a non-conforming greens book during the Barracuda Championship (USGA rule 4.3),” he wrote. “Why I didn’t think of it before the tournament started, I have no idea. The confusion for me was that my 2014 greens book fit in my yardage book so I didn’t think that it wouldn’t comply with the scaling limit of 3/8” to 5 yards. Mine was 1/2” to 5 yards.

“I used it a few times only, but once is too many. Live and learn!”

Wilson was tied for 51st at the time and in position for his biggest payday of the year.

The Barracuda was just Wilson’s third start on the PGA Tour this year and would have been his first official payday. He’s made five starts on the Korn Ferry Tour this year, making four cuts, but only cashing a total of $6,898 with no finishes better than a T38. Wilson has made more than $15.3 million on the course over his career.

He is not in the field at either the PGA Tour nor Korn Ferry Tour events this week.
