Great Sports Curses: Par-3 Contest Jinx

1. Par-3 Contest Jinx

Ted-Potter-Par-3

Wednesday at the Masters is a fun day for the contestants and their close ones. The Par-3 Contest offers a chance for players to enjoy the spectacle of the year’s first major with some interactivity on the short course adjacent to the site of the Masters.

However, playing well in the Par-3 Contest comes with some peril. No player has ever won the Par-3 Contest and then gone on to win the Masters in the same week — a streak that’s lasted since the contest’s inception in 1960.

So, it’s fun to play well, but play well enough to put a ball or two in the water to make sure you don’t win.

Ted Potter Jr., this year’s champion in a playoff over Matt Kuchar, missed the cut by a shot.
