Biplane Turns Torrey Pines Into Runway

San Diego, California News Station - KFMB Channel 8 - cbs8.com

Having to make an emergency landing as a pilot is no easy task. Finding a safe place to land is like finding a needle in a haystack, unless there just happens to be a golf course in the area. That was the case for one lucky biplane with engine trouble. The golf course where the plane landed was also one of the top courses in the country and host of the 2008 U.S. Open: Torrey Pines.

Here’s footage of the plane’s landing:

The best part about landing on a golf course is there are 18 runways to choose from (just don’t choose one with a dog leg). Fortunately, no one was hurt in the emergency landing, which was the first in the pilot’s 36 years of flying.

It’s not everyday you see a plane land on the same fairway that your drive did.
