Go Time: Tiger Woods Shows Up at Valhalla, Expects to Win

It appears that Joe LaCava wasn’t just out doing some sightseeing earlier this week. Tiger Woods — finally — showed up on the grounds at Valhalla Golf Club on Wednesday afternoon, ready to give the PGA Championship a go. After plenty of speculation from, well, everyone, Woods played a practice round and, as you might imagine, it was a pretty low-key affair. Not.

After his first nine holes, Woods met briefly with the media

“I’m going try to go out there and win this,” Woods said, leaving no doubt about his intentions at Valhalla.

Woods said the injury he is currently dealing with is “not the site of the surgery” and that this issue is something “totally different.” This injury stems from his sacrum bone, located at the bottom of the spine, popping out and pinching a nerve following his awkward stumble in a bunker last Sunday. Woods says now that he “feels good.”

“Once the bone was put back in, it was all good. Inflammation has been down,” Woods said. “I’ve got range of motion.”

So, how did he play?

“I played all right,” Woods said. “Nothing great. It’s only Wednesday. I want my good stuff starting tomorrow.”

Before Woods arrived, the grounds at Valhalla were buzzing all day long. Fans and media from all over spent the day snapping countless photos of his empty parking space …

… and the filled space …

… to masses of media members waiting with bated breath for the four-time PGA Champion to show up:

Once he did appear, Woods went straight to the range to work on his game and test out the back:

Woods is scheduled to tee off on the 10th hole Thursday at 8:35 a.m. alongside 2005 PGA Champion Phil Mickelson and 2008 champ and Back9Network ambassador Padraig Harrington.
