NBC Golf Cart Driver Arrested for DWI at Pinehurst

There are some things in life that have just one correct answer or response, period. Do you want more money? Yes. Are you a god? Of course, the answer is yes. When the traffic light turns green, you go and when a state trooper tells you to stop, you damn-sure better stop.

Roger Maltbie’s golf cart driver found the last one out the hard way on Saturday in Pinehurst.

According to Golfweek, the driver ran over a North Carolina State Trooper’s foot leaving the 11th tee area. The trooper commanded the driver of the cart to stop … which, he did not … and then chased him on foot until he caught up and placed the driver in handcuffs and under arrest.

Maltbie said, “This is a new one. I’ve been to a couple of rodeos and a county fair, and I’ve never had this happen.”

The man, later identified as Tommy Lineberry, was no longer in custody according to authorities but that he had been charged with driving while impaired. NBC is aware of the incident but has declined to comment on the situation.

According to a witness, Lineberry told the officer, “I’m supposed to get the cart to Roger.”

The officer replied, “When a state trooper tells you to stop, that’s what you’re supposed to do.”

And you know, right or wrong, you can’t argue with that.
